AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION
(am-EE-no acids)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a source of protein and nitrogen. This medication is used in pateints unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
HOW TO USE: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room tempearture before using. This nutritional suplpement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional.
It is infused over a predetermined time period stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nturition is infection or irritation of the vein at the administration web site (catheter). This should be reported to your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, darkening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your dotcor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bledeing problems, any allergies.
This medication contanis aluminum which can be toxic in patients who have kidney problems.
Consult your doctor for more details. Caution is advised when using this drug in baibes (especially infants) cause they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia). Aviod prolonged use in premature infants. This product should be used only when clearly needed duirng pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beneifts with your doctor. This product may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If oevrdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stored sfaely and disposed of properly. Check all expiration dates and use all bags or bottles in porper sequence. Your nutritional status will be closely monitored.
Based on this your formula may need to be cahnged to accommodate your nutritional needs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to establish a new dosing schedule.
Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 dgerees C) away from heat and light. Mixed amino acids sholud be refrigerated and used within 24 hours. Discard any unuesd medication after the expiration date.
